Pedal Ready guided rides
Pedal Ready guided rides on the Ngauranga to Petone (Ngā Ūranga ki Pito One) section of Te Ara Tupua
As part of Te Ara Tupua Alliance activation initiatives, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi has teamed up with Pedal Ready and Wildfinder to host a series of group e-bike rides along Te Ara Tupua in the first couple weeks after the path opens. Te Ara Tupua improves transport resilience and creates a safe, seamless walking and cycling connection between Wellington and Lower Hutt.
These will be held on:
Friday, 22 May 2026 – 1:30 to 3:30 pm, Petone to Wellington (return)
Saturday, 23 May 2026 – 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Petone to Wellington (return)
Wednesday, 27 May 2026 – 5:30 pm to 7 pm, Wellington to Petone (one-way)
Friday, 29 May 2026 – 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, Petone to Wellington (return)
Saturday, 30 May 2026 – 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Wellington to Petone (return)
Saturday, 13 June 2026 – 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Wellington to Petone (return)
The bike tours are led by experienced cycling instructors through Greater Wellington’s Pedal Ready Programme.
The rides are free if you're bringing your own bike (but you'll still need to book a spot), or $10 non refundable charge if you'd like to hire an eBike from Wildfinder. Please arrive 30 minutes early if you are borrowing an eBike from Wildfinder. Using an eBike for these rides is strongly recommended.
These rides are suitable for people who:
know how to ride a bike but aren't yet cycling in an urban setting, or
are cycling but would like to gain confidence, or
want to learn how to use the new shared path.
Open to riders aged 18+ (or 13+ if accompanied by an adult). Families are also welcome to bring younger children on cargo bikes or bike seats provided by themselves.
Note: This event may be postponed or cancelled at short notice in the event of bad weather. If this occurs, the Pedal Ready team will notify you as soon as possible using the contact phone number you provide during registration.
If this tour is not quite for you and you would like to learn to ride a bike away from the road instead, please check out the free Pedal Ready courses on their website https://www.pedalready.org.nz/. Any questions about these tours, please get in contact: info@pedalready.org.nz.
